I love the South Carolina Low Country! And, since I am married to a travel stock photographer from SC (lucky me), we frequently travel to Beaufort to capture some of its beauty and history.

One of the most impressive stock images Bob shot was the Hunting Island Lighthouse. The lighthouse is a truly magnificent structure and is surrounded by some of the best views that can be had in the area.

So, I hope you enjoy this stock photo of the Hunting Island Lighthouse Beaufort SC. You can click on the image for an enlarged version and editorial license information…

A Few Quick Details About Hunting Island Lighthouse

Thought I would take a few minutes and help you with some editorial ideas. So, I did some research to find out more about the Hunting Island Lighthouse before embarking on this South Carolina stock photography assignment. Here’s one result from my search..

“The Hunting Island Light is located in Hunting Island State Park on Hunting Island near Beaufort, South Carolina. Although no longer used as a functioning lighthouse, the tower is a fixture at the state park and is open to visitors.

    • National Register of Historic Places in 1970
    • Brick with a cast-iron shell.
    • 136 feet (41 m) tall conical tower
    • second-order Fresnel light (the original light is no longer lit}
    • lenses at base of the tower
    • painted black and white
    • large bell

Currently, a rotating light is in place to mimic the original lamp in the lighthouse. It is turned on at dusk and rotates through the night. While not bright enough for navigation, it provides night visitors to the island the feel of an operating lighthouse.

When operational, the Hunting Island Lighthouse was visible for 17 miles. Historic records from March 1890 note that the lighthouse was complete, “including one of the larger sized fire proof oil light houses.”” – (Source = Wikipedia)
