It may seem strange but my friends and I have an odd habit of making t shirts for the many events we attend together. I don’t know if it really is something odd to do, but I don't see many other people with printed T-shirts like ours. That’s okay though, because we make the shirts mostly for our own amusement.

They are always meant to be funny, and we might even have more fun making them than we do wearing them. All you need is a photo editing software, a blank t shirt, a printer, and an iron.

Finding Blank T-Shirts

Many people have a problem finding a good blank t shirt for such a project. I get emails from people who know I make t shirts asking me where to get the shirt.

You can look in clothing stores, but you may have a hard time finding the color and/or the size you need.

In many cases, when you buy blank t shirts at your regular clothing store you are going to pay more for them than you need to. Most of the time a made shirt is something you don’t wear a lot, so there is no need to spend a lot of money on the tee.

You can find great blank t shirts if you look in stores like Michael’s Craft Store. I’m not sure if other craft stores have them, but I think they might. I know Michael’s has them, and I can tell you that you can get a really good price on them.

They even have sales on them, which can save you even more money. I can usually get a great blank t shirt at Michael’s for five dollars. There are times when they are on sale that I can get two for seven dollars. They also have sweatshirts and many other blank items you can use for iron on.

Not only are these shirts inexpensive, you can get almost any size you want. I found a very tiny blank t shirt for my young daughter, and I also found a 2x sized blank t shirt for my husband. They also come in all sorts of colors.

I have seen green, white, black, blue, yellow, purple, and red shirts. I have seen big shirts as well as small sizes. You might think at such a cheap price the blank t shirt you buy will be a flimsy item but I have been surprised to find that they are anything but cheap. They are all cotton and very durable. I won’t buy a blank t shirt anywhere else.

Shopping for a Blank T-Shirt

Blank t shirts are pretty hard to find unless you buy an entire pack of them. You don't see that many on the modeling runway so stores don't pack 'em in, especially without any design on them. Now, don't get me wrong. I love the witty sayings and attractive designs found on most of these kinds of shirts but sometimes I just want a blank t shirt. This can pose a shopping challenge. However, I discovered a few places to look.

I was pleasantly surprised to find blank t shirts at my local arts and crafts store. These tops were remarkably cheap but they were of relatively good quality. I wouldn’t trust that these tops would endure a decade of abuse but they would fair well under normal circumstances. The beauty of the whole thing was the blank t shirts were on sale.

Color and Style

The tops came in an array of colors ranging from bright neon to soft pastels. All of the blank t shirts were displayed in the very front of the store with a huge sign that boasted a meager price tag. The price was so low that even small children shook their heads and said that it couldn’t be right.

The good news was that it was right. The blank t shirts were being sold under a sign that said, “Two for a Dollar.” I kept staring at the sign in disbelief then I decided to ask the clerk if the sign was correct. She said that no one was buying them and they are just cutting their losses.

I couldn’t really understand why this apparel would not sell when these kinds of tops were so hard to find. Many people look for blank t shirts so they can use fabric paint to create their own designs. There are also a number of kits available that people can use for the designs. The scarcity of blank t shirts would make such projects nearly impossible.

Going crazy over a shirt

After talking to the clerk, I decided to go shopping. I bought a countless number of blank T-Shirts in every color imaginable. I still have a pretty nice collection of them. The great thing about the apparel is that they make great gifts when I am in a pinch.

Personalized gifts are always appreciated. Many people love getting handcrafted items that take time and thought to create. I have used my collection of blank t shirts for birthdays and holidays on a number of occasions. I also use them whenever I want to involve my daughter in art projects.
