How do I start a modeling career?“.

I’ve heard this question hundreds of times. The answer is, there is no cut and dry answer to find a model agency. There are so many shapes, sizes and ages of girls and guys so each has a unique place in the modeling industry.

Learning how to model can be simple, but it is not always easy to break into the competitive world of fashion, or finding local model agents, especially with the competition of all the other beautiful girls looking for the same career; all with amazing talent.

Modeling Agency Tips – Discover How to Find a Model Agency and Get Started with Your Career

A very well known fact is that countless numbers of people dream of getting started in the modelling network.

Why, you may ask? Well, I believe it pretty much comes down to three things..

1. First and foremost, she has the dream of being accepted and deemed beautiful and/or unique by a “professional”.

2. Then you can look at the educational aspect of it all. In short, you don’t exactly need to be an A+ student in school, or have a master’s degree to strut your stuff and do catwalk modeling, do you?

Sure, it pays to learn the ways of the business of modeling and what the designers are looking for. But, that knowledge comes with time.

3. Show me the money. Finally, consider the income top models make. We redundantly hear stories about how much “female super models” earn. I’ve heard of top females getting paid $20,000. for only one day’s modeling session.

Do Your Eyes See Dollar Signs when You See a Models Wanted Advertisement?

Although this is a great deal of capital, keep in mind that these are the select few at the top of their game.

Not every model can earn such an income. However, There are careers in modeling available for those willing to work & learn how.

Now, having said all that, modeling agencies always look for new faces. The business, like any other industry, is constantly looking for the next big thing. Are you it?

The Model Go See

Ever been to an open-call? Also known as a go see, this is where models wanted are discovered. Modeling agencies, big and small, hold open calls on a weekly basis or less.

This is where you have the opportunity to show them what you’re made of. But, before you head in there to talk it up with the industry pros, I must suggest a few things.

I guess you could say I have the inside scoop since I have been a fashion photographer in the modeling world for quite a number of years.

How to Look and Act Like a Model at Open Call

At the first meeting with a talent agent, show them the very best you can be. To be your most beautiful self means applying the time and effort for taking great care of your..

  • body,
  • skin,
  • teeth,
  • and hair.

There’s no substitute for good health when you become a model.

How to Look Fabulous During Your Model Agency Interview

To look great, you have to groom properly and eat foods that are good for you (Lay off the burgers and fast food). This relates to your physique as well.

Men and women who plan to answer an open call for models wanted should steer clear of that annoying body fat.

Just because you are a thin 19 year old girl, does not always mean that you’re in good shape.

I won’t go into this in detail because I wrote another post for you about the model agency interview.

You can read it here..

Do You Have Million Dollar Legs?

Let’s do a quick body modeling inventory. Are those thighs jiggling or hard? Men should focus on getting sculpted. I’m not talking Hulk Hogan here, but you will need a ripped body to compete with the models sitting next to you at open-call.

You might find female models wanted at Next Talent or Marilyn Modeling Agency , but they only pick about 1 in every 20,000 people they see.

The world of modeling is no doubt a bizarre one. It can be difficult to tell what a female talent scout or agent is searching for.

Just because you are beautiful & thin, doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll make the cut.

Dreaming of Becoming a Model? Create a Unique and Beautiful New Look

When you think of models wanted in this day and age, think of beautiful but unique; or sometimes quirky.

Fashion designers have surreal tastes to say the least. That’s why you should give yourself a chance to succeed by following the advice above.

More importantly, learn all you can about the modeling industry. Locate model agencies near you and ask about open calls. Find what they are looking for – Then, give it to them.

And, most of all, make contacts so that you are “in the right place at the right time” when the models wanted information becomes available. It doesn’t matter how pretty, tall or thin you are if no one knows you exist.

A Real Modeling Agency Question for Joe (The Video Above) ..

Let’s look at this question about modeling agencies and the answers Joe gives. Twenty-three-year-old Adelaide from Tampa Florida writes:

“Do you have any advice for models on how to pick an agency, or even checking if the agency is legitimate?”

Hi, I’m Joe Edelman. Each week I’ll do my best to answer a question from now hundreds of emails I receive from people like you, who want to know more about the business of modeling.

This week we’ll cover how do i pick a modeling agency and know if they’re legit.

Adelaide, you don’t want to pick just one agency. You want to be signed with as many agencies as possible.

Always remember, there is no one single agency in any market that has all of the work. So, if you choose to only work with one agency, you may have to make the decision to pass on work that other agencies might have.

With that said, it’s not always that simple. So, follow along and I’ll explain a few different scenarios.

For instance, if you’re a 5’10” or 5′ 11″ fashion model in New York or Los Angeles, and four model agents want to sign you, they will expect you to sign an exclusive contract right away.

Trust me, if Ford Models wants to sign you, it’s okay to sign the exclusive contract. But, the simple fact is, that’s not going to be the case for most of the people watching this video.

As a new model, you are an unproven talent. So, agencies are taking a chance on you. Likewise, you have no way of knowing in advance who the agency’s clients are. Or, if they actually have clients that they are confident will hire you.

Maybe, they just like your look, and decide to sign you in case a new client comes along. Yes, that happens a lot!

So, your best plan is to sign with as many agencies as you can in the market where you live. Even if you sign with all of them, you’ll still find that most of your work will come from one or two agencies.

It all comes down to, you’ll have access to all of them, and all of the work, so don’t worry about picking one.

Be greedy! Go for as many as possible if you’re serious about building your modeling career.

How Can I Tell if a Modeling Agency is Legitimate?

Now as far as knowing if the agency is legitimate or not, there are a few things that you need to do.

First of course, you can check the Bob Pardue website with tons of information about modeling. The site includes many posts to teach you how to identify modeling scams, etc.

Also, you’ll find a directory of modeling agencies all across the United States. Now, I don’t guarantee that they’re all super nice, and won’t try to scam you. But, I do guarantee I’ve never received a bad report about any of the agencies listed there.

Then, you can do an online search for an agency nearby. Most importantly, don’t just look at the first one or two pages of search results. Go down at least ten pages to see what kind of feedback you find.

You can also check out websites like ripoff report com , Consumer Affairs comm, and the Better Business Bureau. If you use the BBB, please understand that the fact that a company has an A+ rating only means that nobody has complained about them.

Without the matter being resolved, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a great company. In fact, they make money from the companies that display their logo on their websites. So definitely, do your research before you contact an agency.
