Tips for Alabama Models

Regarding Modeling Agencies in AL

Each day, there are more and more males and young girls living in the state of AL dreaming of pursuing an exciting career in walking the runway, commercial, teen or promotional or of becoming high fashion models.

Reasons for Becoming an Alabama Model

While there are a hundred reasons a girl or guy would like to model, one point is that they like the idea of being admired for their looks. They aspire to be one of those women in the swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated or maybe for men, gracing the cover of the next Men's Health magazine.

These are the Top of the List

To get jobs like this, you have to meet some strict requirements because runway and high fashion companies like Ford and IMG handle these super models. There is very little room at the top and most won't be accepted. If you are, work is almost a surety.

How Tall Do I Have to Be?

Your height is important when applying to the modeling agencies listed above and with others like Trump or Wilhelmina. They normally want models starting at 13 to 15 years old and females need to be 5'9" or taller with proportionate weigh and body measurements.

If you are one of these super young models, or even 20 years old for that matter, then make sure your parents know exactly what you are doing. This is not just a game and safety needs to be considered. Parents, you should stay involved in every detail or your teen's modeling career no matter if it's in NY or Alabama.

Don't Get Discouraged - Other Types of Modeling

If you are not quite tall enough don't worry. There are other entertainment jobs available locally in AL as well as nationally for American models. Here are a few different categories ...

  • Females 13 to 99 years old
  • Height 5' 9"-5' 11" - Still possible at 5' 8" to 6' 0"

  • Dress sizes 6 - 8

Body part models ( feet, hands, hair, legs, etc.)

Whatever part you plan to show make sure it's in perfect condition. For example, foot models have perfectly smooth skin with no wrinkles, blemishes, etc. Many models apply for one of the jobs above and then do parts modeling in addition to the other types.

Male models

Waist size 29 to 32" with a suit size generally around 40"

This is self explanatory. Work wearing clothes for fashion lines, etc.

Commercial Models

If you have the look "they" are needing, you're in. This can take many forms with all ages, colors, and body types. A wide open market with a little work.

Other types of modeling in Alabama include promotional or showroom, fitness and exercise, editorial for magazines and newspapers, etc.

Promotional Modeling

These models are a different breed - and they are commonly spread across the state of Alabama. You'll find them either behind a booth at expos or maybe giving out credit card applications at a racetrack. They are a products oriented models so need to be good at greeting the public one on one.

Also known by different names such as promo, trade show or event modeling, these guys and girls work part time or some make a career with promotional jobs. If you are attractive, have an outgoing personality, love meeting people, you might look into becoming a promo model. You can work freelance or through one of the many Alabama modeling agencies but the latter is preferred to increase your chances of finding decent work.

Getting Started

After you practice learning poses for photographers start making some contacts. There are some good modeling agents in AL to start you off but you might outgrow them and expand into other states. Call or contact these agencies by email to find out the requirements and if they have open call dates available. Set up your interview and go!

Let the director do her work. It is their job to know how to talk to professional photographers and clients to make sure that everything goes just as it is supposed to go to keep you happy and to keep you working.

Handling publicity, and generating it is also in their duties. If you don't have an agent to support you, getting involved in the modeling industry is a real challenge. You might not be on that top listing but at least you're working and the professionals are finding you jobs that are fun and exciting.

Alabama Teen and Adult Models can Find Representatives

Finding some open calls for teenagers in AL is not rocket science. You can look up talent scouts and modeling directors on web sites just like this one to get your feet wet. If you are in your teens or preteens be absolutely sure one of your parents are notified of every step and don't go alone to photo shoots or interviews for safety reasons.
