Many female models are just not quite the body type or are not tall enough for runway so they start looking at a commercial modeling career. This tutorial lists some things you need to know if you are a beginner searching for a careeer.

Types of Modeling

Commercial Modeling

If you work as a commercial model your modeling assignments will more than likey be to sell a product so commercial and advertising are very closely related.

As a commercial model you may be asked to model anything from jewelry, cars, trucks, or anything else the client is looking to sell. Remember, in commercial modeling, you are the one selling the product with your looks and actions.

Sometimes in commercial modeling you won't even see your whole body or face in the final print. The client may decide she just wants your foot in the ad.

Physical Requirements

For commercial modeling:

Requirements vary from product to product so commercial modeling is fairly flexable. The good news is that you can have a very ordinary face and still be a commercial model.

To be a commercial model you need to bring out the salesperson in you. Practice looks that sell if you want to pursue commercial modeling as your career. Pay varies but can be very lucritive. Think you've got what it takes? Go for it!

For Promotional Models:

Promo, trade show and promotional modeling jobs fall loosely in the commercial realm but some of the attributes might be different. These are the attractive male and female models you see at events handing out brochures or collecting names of visitors for credit card companies, etc.

You need to have an attractive face, good figure and the average female model in this category is about 5 feet 6 inches tall. Just a sidestep.

With that said, if you plan to have a career as a female commercial model you need to contact agencies and ask if they handle this type work. Many do. Or, you can hop online and look at modeling agency websites to find out what types they represent. Find the ones offering commercial work and get in touch with them according to the options given. This is the first step. Follow up and repeat as many times as you need to begin your career.
