Regarding Teenagers, Females and Males Modeling in North Carolina Even though it is one of the petite states (pardon the pun) North Carolina presents some pretty good opportunities for models interested in pursuing their careers. You'll find jobs from posing for local photographers to work for women modeling in swimsuits for catalog or glamour.
Taking your first step in entertainment suggests that you take a good look at yourself in the mirror before getting started in a modeling career. Are you tall? Are you plus size? Do you have a figure for fashion or fitness?

Requirements for Teen Models Teenagers modeling is one of the most popular genres. Most start super young somewhere between the ages of 13 to 15 years old. For runway or fashion you need to be tall and slim with a height between 5'9" and 5'11" with a waist of about 22 to 24 inches. Your other body proportions should also reflect these attributes.
If you plan to be a high fashion teenage model and work for the top of the list agents like IMG Modeling, Ford Management or Elite, who represents Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford and many other supermodels with the look, you'll need to meet the requirements listed above along with perfect teeth, great hair and a flawless complexion, In other words, you need to be a raving beauty with all that it takes just like you see on America's Next Top Model and those gracing the cover of magazines such as Seventeen or Vogue.
Career for Glamour Models These models are hardbodies. They have beautiful faces along with a sexy body to match with measurements around 34-B bra size, 22 to 24" waistline and 32 to 34 inch hips. They are experts at giving sensual looks with their eyes and doing sultry poses for photographers. These NC glamour models have what it takes and this is your competition for women modeling swimsuits, posing for Victoria's Secret catalogs or doing artistic figure work. Prepare to be bold and show some or all your skin if you endeavor in this type modeling category.
Petite and Plus Size There is work available for these categories as well. Some go into catalog, some into commercial which is discussed below.
Commercial and Promotional Modeling Even in towns like Charlotte or Raleigh, there are modeling agencies who represent teens through mature senior models in male or female commercial model genres. You don't necessarily need to be tall or a certain age or body type to become this type of model. You do need an outgoing personality and a good handle on giving facial expressions, using body language in poses, etc. Promotional models are the girls and guys you see at trade shows such as Lowe's Motor Speedway giving out brochures or working in booths, taking pictures with fans with their favorite race car etc.
Children's Modeling Agencies If you have a child or toddler who is outgoing and not shy around the photographer's camera you may have a candidate for children in modeling. Portfolios need to be lifestyle and natural with photos such as chocolate on the face, playing on the slide, etc. Cute babies can sometimes become models.
Finding Photographers and Creating a Portfolio Your photographer should be tremendous help in building your portfolio to show these agents. Make sure the person you select has experience with models and can give you a release for reprint rights on your photos. You'll need to make copies for prints, a cd, online and maybe a comp card with pictures and information for talent agencies.
Your portfolio should include a variety of photos from full length to headshots with one outdoor in natural light with little or no makeup so the agency can see the real you. They also want to see your true figure so do a pose or two in swimsuits, tight fitting sweaters and jeans, etc.
Make sure your pictures stay up to date, especially if you are in the teenagers modeling category or into childrens catalog or fashion.
Do many poses, angels and outfits and keep your photos clean and without clutter. The agency representatives do not want to pick you out of a busy background. Show a super portfolio with only your very best images and your chances for a career increase.
