If you don't want to go local, you can check with some of the top players like Ford who grace the top of the marketplace. Also IMG Management is an excellent choice to find high paying jobs but make sure you have the attributes they are looking for in a new recruit before making contact with your photo portfolio. These companies don't pick just anybody. In fact, your chance of becoming the next superstar are slim. Don't believe me? Ask Tyra Banks or Cindy Crawford, the'll tell you how tough it is.

Another top ten player is Elite Modeling Agency in NYC. Just as the two above, make sure you know how tall you need to be to work for this giant. It's possible to have them represent you but don't be too discouraged if they say "no". Just suck it in and go back to some of the MI listings above.

Find Work Locally as a Model

There is something for everyone whether you are interested in artistic, figure, glamour or commercials. Or, you might find you are suited for catalog work or promotional (like the models you see at sports events and conventions). Whether it's Russian women posing in swimsuits or Italian, female, a man or or just someone who wants to pose partime for an artist, you'll probably find an agent or manager to handle you here.

When posing for photographers in test shoots or when going to cast calls take someone with you to be safe. Now, search the list of Michigan agencys to get started in your career as a teenage model.

Types of MI Models

Michigan boasts an assortment of modeling opportunities. A few are listed here along with the requirements for each. You can be male or female, petete or plus, super young or a mature baby boomer. See where you fit in.

High Fashion and Runway - These have been discussed a bit in the paragraphs above but to revamp.. You need to be tall and thin to become a print model in this part of the performing arts. Your waistline should be small along with toned muscles. For females, height from about 5'9" to 5'11" with some exceptions in different areas of the country. Males should be from about 5'11" to 6'3" and have a waist size of 29-32 inches (also with some exceptions).

In addition, your teeth, complexion and hair should be really good shape and you need to have a certain look the agency is needing at any given time. This is why it's so difficult to break into this type of modeling. You'll find plenty of saavy competitors in runway and fashion so be prepared to work more than they do.

Commercial - These models have a bit more of a chance of finding work locally. Height is not as much an issue but you need certain looks along with the ability to really pull out expressions for the camera. An outgoing personality is a real plus. You might find yourself modeling for products or services for ads locally or nationally.

Catalog - Just as the name implies, you'll be doing jobs as a model for department store ads, clothing catalogs, etc. These are many times open to plus size or petite models too.

Teenagers and Preteens - A big market and teenage models might find themselves finding employment with a variety of diversified model agencies in Michigan or NY.

Fitness Modeling in Michigan - Modeling agencies who handle these types of models look for male and female subjects with absolutely toned and muscular bodies. If you picture yourself as a hard body who can wear a swimsuit or bikini with the best of them, go for it!

Glamour - This is not for the timid man or woman. Modeling for glamour magazines or the cover of Victoria's Secret tm takes a body type of about 34 B bra size along with a 22 - 25 inch waist and 34-35 hip measurement. The women you see posing in swimsuits on Sports Illustrated tm and other famous and racy mags are considered in this type. Some of the agencies in this directory might represent and give open calls to swimwear models in Michigan but not all are into the type. Be careful as to where you draw the line in this field.

Modeling for Figure and Artistic Photographers - Some models vie to pose for artists in colleges or do implied or more exposed shoots. Be aware that you also need a slim build and height might be a factor although I can' t say exactly how tall you need to be for figure modeling in the state of Michigan. As with glamour, be careful when choosing cast calls and if it doesn't feel right, walk away.

Promotions - Models you might see at a Michigan trade show or a Detroit sporting event giving out sales brochures or manning booths fit in the category of promotional modeling. Not a lot of ability required but you do need to be outgoing. You might not find it exciting or exotic but it helps pay the bills when getting started.

Body Parts Modeling - How do you become a model in this area? Well, the best way is to get accepted by an agency in one of the areas listed above and then evolve into it. Agents are more likely to choose say, a hand model from the stock they already have available which is why you should pay attention to every detail of every part of your body such as keeping a manicure or pedicure.

How to Find a Good Model Portfolio Photographer in Michigan

Creating an exciting portfolio of pictures is very important if you plan to model in the local areas of MI. Make sure the photographer you choose is experienced in shooting portfoios and knows the ropes about posing and usage rights for the photos. Some portrait studios are great at what they do but do not understand this side of the business.

Look at a gallery of modeling pictures taken by the photographer you are considering. Price is important but not as much so as quality photography. Ask plenty of questions to make sure your photog is in tune with what you want in your book or on your comp cards ( composite ) to present to the Michigan talent agents.

When creating your portfolio, choose from 8 to 20 of your very best poses, looks, with a variety of outfits in the field you plan to apply to. Never show medeocre work on composite cards. The agencies and managers do not want to sort through to find the good pictures.

Detroit and other large cities in Michigan are the perfect locations for male or female teenagers, or even super young preteens who want to submit their pictures for open call interviews. Some of these companies represent plus size fashion to petite.

Be sure and look up their submission requirements before applying and always take someone with you to fashion photo shoots or interviews with any scout.
