Modeling Requirements and Tips
for Submitting to Ford
How tall are the top list models? I've
been asked this question over and over again and the answer
is simple. For Ford Agency, taller than the normal girl.
Period! If you are not 5'9" or higher, you are going to have
a difficult time in trying out for runway shows or the cover
of Vogue Magazine tm.
But, if you have the height and a really great looking face
go for it! Modeling includes some talent, lots of practice,
persistence and a little bit of luck. These agents don't
play around and they want their models to fit the
part.
If you are not eligible for Ford,
Elite or IMG then you might want to check these
US
talent agencies to sell
your wares (look). You might be able to work locally or at
least close by to your hometown in commercial or maybe
promotional, local TV stations, etc.
How Old do I Need to Be?
Ford models' ages range up to 21
normally but teens between 13 to 15 years old seem to be the
norm. The closer you are to the beginning age the longer you
have to prepare for a career but get started right away if
you plan to model in these New York, Los Angeles, Chicago or
other top markets.
Tall and Sleek Women
What is your height? If you are 5 foot
9 inches or taller you might consider runway or high fashion
with representatives such as Ford. These teen and female
models have to be on the thin side so make sure you are fit
before applying.
Facial Issues
Your complexion should be clear and
free of acne or scar tissue and look clean with very little
make up application.
Fingers
The girl with unbroken and well
manicured nails has a better chance at modeling with Ford
Management. Just another requirement of this top
agent.
Hair
No split-ends or dry and damaged hair
on Ford models. Also, be careful of over-dying your
dew.
Teenagers, Preteen Males and Females
in Local Entertainment
Let's face it, with the top notch
competition you might or might not have a difficult time
when you go to New York or Miami to work for Ford but there
is still hope for your career. Here are a few things to
consider if you want to go local..
Taking Your Body to the
Camera
Are you curvy or straight? If you have
a bust size of 34 B, waist at 24 and hips of 34 inches you
might be the type for glamour modeling. Be careful about
crossing the line as this type career calls for your
dressing down to really skimpy outfits, do posing in
swimsuits or without clothing at all. If you are a bit shy
about this then you might want to consider one of the other
fields below.
Plus Models
If you are a little on the heavy side
(not overweight) you might enter the plus size area which is
available for catalog, fashion and some glamour jobs,
etc.
Teenaged Models
Requirements
Find out what pictures you need in
your model portfolio, get your dad or mom to help and
contact some agencies to get you started. Runway can be your
goal only if you are tall and meet the other conditions of
Ford but also consider catalog or commercial work in which
you'll find a little less competition.
Childrens Modeling
Super young kids have the chance to
model too! These can range from infants to toddlers and
other various ages of children, mostly working in the
commercial community.
Modeling Types
Runway - Tall, Slim and Beautiful and
able to gracefully stroll down the catwalk in NY or maybe
Boston.
High Fashion - For teenagers, male and
female models. She's Got the Look is a good example
of what these models portray and go through for a
career.
Commercial - Work in all parts of
entertainment such as TV ads, print advertisements in
magazines, etc.
Promotional - Give away fliers or
other materials, run a booth at local trade shows,
etc.
Figure, Implied or Artistic Modeling -
These are models who pose for artists at colleges or other
institutes or sometimes for a photographer to put on canvas
for sale, calendars, etc. Some implied or more unambiguous
showing of the body as art may be required.
Glamour - For the woman with a full
figure such as a 34 B bra size. This type of modeling can be
a well-paid area but it is more for the bold and the
beautiful as you'll be showing swim wear, glove bikinis,
etc. You might see one of these models in the Victoria's
Secret catalog or maybe the covergirl for Sports
Illustrated.
Fitness or Sport Models - A toned and
muscular body is a must for fitness work. These men and
women put in some long hours at the gym before they can
apply to local or top list agencies like Ford.
Catalog - Just as the name says you
will be modeling clothing such as jeans, summer and winter
outfits, etc. You may run into some height and body
requirements. Contingency includes petite and plussize for a
versatile career.
Parts - Body part modeling is another
desired area for young women and men. These include hands,
legs, feet, or any other part of the form to advertise
certain products, shoes or articles of clothing. It's still
a plus to have a look for fashion or other types and use
this as an aside.
Supermodels like Cindy Crawford or
Tyra Banks are few and far between so take stock of your
height, weight, look, complexion, hair, etc. and see where
you fit in as a model. Who knows? You might have the looks
for high fashion modeling at Ford.
