Opportunities for Teen Models in Illinois
Taking a look into opportunities for teenagers in Illinois? The entertainment industry for Chicago talent agents and other areas can be just a mouse click away. A secret to success is to practice your fashion or commercial posing techniques each morning in your full length mirror, get a professional portfolio of pics in print or an online portfolio, and then make as many contacts as it takes.
Getting Ready
When you submit for and interview, be prepared. Here are some things you will need when applying locally.
1. A Professional Portfolio - A picture is worth a thousand words and this is very true in modeling for teenage models as well as adults. As stated above work on your look before posing for professional photographers and your chances increase. Learn to give facial expressions and how other models do body posture, etc. The type photos will be determined by the kind of work you are applying for.

2. 9 x 12 Prints or Comp Cards - You might want to put somewhere between 8 and 20 photos in a book to show the agencies when you arrive at your open call. Only place your best and make the size no smaller than 8 x 10.
Composite cards are another great way to show your work. These normally are two-sided and include a headshot on front and several different shots on back along with your stats and contact information. The best part is you can leave these with the scout or agent to keep on file without having to "loan" out your portfolio book.
The Major Markets
It's no secret that top list models like Tyra Banks and Cindy Crawford are from a different class in modeling. Their agencies are located in large cities like New York and Milan. And, yes, you can find a few in Chicago as well. If you are not tall, say 5'9" or taller, chances of listing with Elite or Ford fall dramatically. They want tall, "perfect" models normally teenage between 13 and 15 years old with a slim body, perfect teeth and complexion, who can walk the runway or grace the cover of Victoria's Secret or one of the mags like Vogue or Seventeen. These are your high fashion models so compete if you will.
Other types of modeling with more relaxed requirements include glamour, catalog, artistic or figure, commercial and promotional. Although some of these attributes are represented by IMG and others, you can sometimes win a contract in Illinois or other surrounding states. To break into these markets, each requires different attributes such as body type,, height and weight. These modeling opportunities include plus size females, teen petite and other types with commercial needing a large variety of entertainment personnel.
