Josie Maran - Video Shows Model Poses for
Editorial and High Fashion
There are all types of modeling jobs
from high fashion to promotional but this video by Josie
Maran teaches the model pose for editorial and fashion photo
shoots.
Before beginner modeling hopefuls
waltz off to open
calls with modeling agencies
or hire a photographer to create photos for them, they
really need to watch this and learn more about how to pose
for magazine and other shoots.
Drama and Your Comfort
Zone
How comfortable are you in front of
the camera? Don't worry - many beginner female models are
exactly the same They sometimes become tense as the
photoshoot approaches and Josie addresses this in her video
above.
Attitude
Contrary to what many girls believe,
high fashion and editorial is NOT glamour. In no way or form
do you try to pose with a "pretty" or even "sexy" poses -
this is not what you are going for in your fashion
pictures.

Moving Picture
A great way to get successful high
fashion model poses is to include movement in your book of
pose ideas (you do have an idea book, don't you?). What this
means is to look as if you are moving - i.e. walking,
stretching, pushing, etc. Look at some of the best photos in
the women's fashion magazines - many will give you a feeling
of motion.
Finding Props for Your
Photos
What do I do with my body? My hands?
My feet? These are often asked questions I get from new
female models when they step into my studio or during a
location photo session. One way to address the uncertainty
is by using props of different types. For instance, it can
be something as simple as a window or door way. This is
especially important for the editorial model poses as the
props give you something to do and look "real" instead of
staged.
There are many variations of high
fashion female model poses but the first thing you'll want
to do if you are a newcomer to the modeling industry is to
just develop a few at first and then work to build and
expand. Before you know it you'll be finding a
style
of posing that's all your own
and you photographer will love you!
