How to Become a Successful Model & Achieve Your Impossible Dream
You are having trouble getting started in modeling aren’t you? How do I know? Because I hear from new talent in the industry almost daily with this same problem. If you want to learn how to become a successful model you need to develop a mindset for success.
3 Mindset Principles of Top Fashion Models
This section is about improving your way of thinking to match the thoughts of other successful models to achieve your “impossible” dream of being a model.
Each girl or guy who has made it to the top most likely had a mindset for getting there. Here are some thoughts for your career ..
Why You Need a Modeling Success Mindset
Over and over again, we dream big dreams and have enormous aspirations for walking in fashion shows such as Fashion Week held in different parts of the country. Unfortunately, our modeling dreams remain just that – dreams.
1. Imagine and Aspire to a Higher Level
Life could be a great deal better, if only we learned to aspire higher. The most widespread difficulty in setting goals is the word impossible.
For the most part new models get overwhelmed with obstacles thinking; I can’t do this. It is too hard. It is unattainable.
No one can do this. If everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no innovations, and no breakthroughs in human achievement.
And most of all, no supermodels like Alisa Ahmann, Cindy Crawford or even Tyra Banks!
A Bumble Bee Can’t Fly, Can It?
Many years back scientists were puzzled when they took a look at the unassuming bumblebee. In theory, they said, it was not possible for the bumblebee to fly. Fortunately for the bumblebee nobody has told it so. As a result fly it does. So, if you want to become a successful model be a bumble bee and fly no matter what “they” say.
Believe it or not, I’ve photographed some absolutely amazing looking female models who doubted their beauty and abilities.
These girls had everything it took to become a model except that ever fleeting confidence that comes with experience.
If you get into a habit of limiting yourself with self-doubt, and negative assumptions about your modeling abilities, you will in no way be able to break past what you consider not possible.
There are ways to overcome shyness and bring out that inner confidence that others will see in you. It’s just a matter of belief in yourself and your talent.
If you reach excessively far out into the sky without working towards your goal, you will find yourself clinging to the impossible dream.
3. Set Your Modeling Goals – Work Daily
As you break up your dream into achievable steps (goals), you will find out that the career you thought was not within your reach becomes easier to bring about. And the not possible begins to seem possible after all.
How to Eat an Elephant
A person was once asked; “How do you eat an elephant?”. The reply of course is “one bite at a time.”. Modeling is the same way. If you replace this with how do I become a model then the answer is, one step at a time.
Break up your goals into small daily routines and work at each one. Here is a quick guide to goal setting I’ve used many times:
- Write it down
- Put a (realistic) date on it
- List the steps you need to take to reach it
- List people and organizations you need to talk to and contact (agents, etc.)
- Start today!
“I Found a Thousands Ways It Didn’t Work!”
Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be truer. For one to achieve his or her modeling dreams, there has to have been hard effort and discipline. But take note that that one percent has to be a think-big dream, and not some easily accomplished one.
THINK BIG & Take a Chance on Your Modeling Career!
Think big and work hard to accomplish those goals to become a model. As you step up the ladder of progress, you will just about find out that the not possible has just become a little bit more possible.
Am I saying you’ll become another Cindy Crawford?
I don’t know but please don’t say “No” to yourself before trying. Give your modeling career dream all you’ve got and then, if you fail, you can at least say you tried. If you want to become a successful model do all you can do, and then do more! – Bob Pardue
