Women have Worn Mini-Skirts since the Early 1900's
Many would be shocked to discover that the change shortening the hemlines of women's dresses actually became a norm during the 1920 period. I'm referring to the skimpy, legs ablazing aspect of apparel for women.
As soon as the roaring 20s came along, skirts for girls became a tad more risqué. Women's skirts slowly began getting shorter and shorter. |
So, by the time the 1960's were in full effect, the classic mini skirt that we all know so well was here. This is a trend that began in England. In no time it made its way to the states. Keep in mind this was a time of rebellion. Our country's youth was lashing out against the expectations of their parents and developing new ideas and styles of their own.
The mini skirt was here to stay. And not every traditional/conservative, religious parent was loving it. Some folks thought that it exposed too much of a woman's body. In turn this would cause a man to get the wrong idea about the lady's intentions. No offense, but I can't help but laugh about this. People are responsible for their own actions, and individuals should be free to dress how they please without ridicule. At least to some extent anyway. After all, this is a "free" country.
If you have a daughter in this era, you can count on her wanting to sport a mini skirt at some point or another. This desire typically hits by the time she enters high school or shortly thereafter. The mini skirt has become a trend adored by men and women. You might as well embrace it, because it's unlikely to go anywhere any time soon. Knowing enough about short dresses to make solid, informed choices cuts down on the fear factor.
If you take into consideration what
you've just learned with this history of the miniskirt, you
should have nothing to worry about when you shop
for one. Remember,
if you must wear black (or any colour for that matter), you
can be the highlight of the evening and stand out in your
new mini-skirt.
