Black Dresses Have Been a Fashion Statement Since the 1940s
So, what’s so great about the little black dress? It’s ubiquitous, showing up all over in movies, television shows, and night clubs.
It’s a long standing design too, with its roots seated deeply in the 1940s cocktail dresses. So why has the little black dress stuck around so long when bell bottoms and platform shoes, relatively recent fashion developments, have died out so quickly?
One of the reasons the little black dress has been around so much is that, from a woman’s point of view, it’s perhaps the best piece of clothing ever designed. Are you going out and have absolutely no idea what to wear?
Maybe you’re going from a party to a formal dinner to a black tie affair, what are you going to put on which won’t force you to change clothes three times over the course of the evening? Silver is especially striking in necklaces as the dress will make it shine. Feeling a little too black-tie? Dress it up with a colorful scarf or shawl and you’ll be the belle of the ball.
And how does the little black dress look from the guy’s point of view? Does he see it as a cop-out, as something substituting for actual style?
Nah. He thinks you look gorgeous in it, and to be honest guys don’t pay nearly as much attention to women’s clothing as women do. Let’s be honest, when a woman is dressing up for an evening out on the town, she’s really dressing to impress the other women in the room.
