Don't Tear Off That Clothing Label Until You Read This!

Clothing Labels Are More Important Than You Might Assume

Though many of the clothing labels that come on any piece of clothing are annoying, they are important for many reasons. They often have care information on them, and this is good stuff to know.

They also tell a size, but that might not be important after the clothes are purchased. Many cut them off because they irritate the skin, but quite often this just makes things worse. The tiny part left within the seam can be more irritating then the tag itself. If you take them off of your children’s clothing, you may not be doing them a favor.

Most children learn how to put clothing on the right way be looking for the tag. Though some clothing labels are put on the sides, most are in the back. They can see where the back and front of something is just by finding the tag and putting on the clothing the correct way.

Some underwear has them in different spots, and that can be confusing. I notice that is the only thing my daughter has a problem with, as she can tell front and back by where the clothing labels are on anything else she is wearing. If the tag is missing, she needs help. Many children learn in the same way. Consider that before cutting them out.

Do Clothing Labels Get Under Your Skin?

However, for adults, it’s a totally different story.

The clothing labels can be very irritating, and they can also hang out the top of a shirt, which can be the tiny thing that ruins an otherwise well put together look for anyone. These can be removed by cutting, but what is left might be irritating.

How to Remove Labeling

Clothing labels can be removed by undoing the stitching and removing them, but this can leave a garment susceptible to fraying and can shorten the life span. If you do completely remove the label, make sure you reinforce the area with a few well placed stitches or the item might come unraveled in the washer.

Before removing any clothing labels, make sure you know what they say. If they have specific instructions for cleaning the item properly, make sure you can remember how to do it.

Some are pretty standard, but there are some that are dry clean only, or they may have to be washed in a certain temperature to retain a good look. Others might have to stay out of the dryer, or they may not do well under a hot iron.

If you think the information might easily be forgotten, you should write it down somewhere or keep the clothing labels in place. Now, put on your outfit with the front in front and the back in back! d:-)
