Used Digital Cameras - Should You?
By Various presented by Bob Pardue
The best course of action to take sometimes
isn't clear until you have listed and considered your alternatives.
The following paragraphs should help clue you in to what the experts
think is significant about buying used digital cameras.
If you want to get a digital camera, but you
dont have enough money for the model you really want, you
should consider looking used digital cameras. You can quite often
find a great model for a great price, and it will work just as well
as if you had bought one at full price.
There are many places to get use digital
photography equipment, and you do have to take extra time to make
sure the camera you are considering is indeed in good shape.
You might even want to buy one with a known
defect if you think it will be easy and cheap to get it fixed. You
should be able to save even more money that way.
One of the first places to look for good used
digital cameras might be on eBay. You will probably find hundreds
from which to choose, but make sure you read the fine print.
Sellers are not allowed to sell something that
has a defect without stating as much, and they normally will list all
problems with used digital cameras, if any in fact exist. If you have
bought a used on eBay that is not as promised, you
should be able to get your money back as long as you have used a
credit card or Paypal to pay for the purchase.
You can see that there's practical
Dude, where's my camera?
It's Tuesday! Where's my Camera?

A whole lot is going on at Randompixel, though most of it is behind the scenes. To faciliate these changes, I'm forgoing posting a new camera this week. Instead, I and the randompixies have been readying a huge new group of cameras to be released over the next two weeks.

To put it in perspective, the first release was of 7 cameras, in 1998, of which 2 came back. The second release, the 2000 release, consisted of 12 cameras, of which 5 came back.

The most recent release, started three weeks ago, was of 15 cameras. As of today, none of this latest batch has returned but, if history is any measure, the first cameras should be coming in any day now.

This weekend we prepared 51(!) cameras to be released over the next 10 days. This batch is larger than all of the previous camera releases combined.

On the website front, I'm working on a minor redesign of the home page, with the intention of giving more frequent blog-style updates, letting you know about cameras that have made their way home, recent news or blog articles, and an extremely comprehensive F.A.Q.

Also, I'm going to try out comments on a per-photo level, so you can let others know, for example, that there's no such thing as a 'notchback Mustang', and that it looks more like a '67 than a '65. We'll be able to see how it goes starting in a week or so.

So, to sum up: Randompixel growng. Tons of new cameras. New features. No camera this week. New camera next Tuesday.

Thanks for your support, and have a wonderful week!

value in
learning more about digital cameras. Can you think of ways to apply
what's been covered so far?
Dont discount reconditioned items when
looking for used digital cameras. I have a surround sound system in
my house that we bought reconditioned. It has always worked very
well, and we have had it for over ten years with no problems.
One of the controls is not working as well as
it should, but it has far outlasted its expected lifetime. You may
also find that used digital cameras that have been reconditioned will
have the same great qualities.
These digital cameras are always sold for less
than the retail price, and are a great way to get a good item at an
amazing discount.
If you do decide to buy used digital cameras,
remember that you may not have a warranty to cover any repairs. You
will probably have to send them to the original company to get them
repaired if you dont have a qualified repair store in your
area.
No real need to worry, however, because you
will normally get a good deal on repairs if you go to the
manufacturer, and when you do, you will have comfort in knowing they
are best equipped to know exactly what is wrong and how to fix your
used digital camera.
There's a lot to understand about digital
cameras. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above,
but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles.
