Getting Your Curvy Body Back As a photographer I understand that teenage models are very conscious about their weight and height. They are constantly asking questions such as how tall do I need to be or how much should I weigh to get started in modeling. Same is true for male and female teenagers all over the world. Here are a few tips for eating healthy and maintaining your proper size. |
Secret to Teens Losing Weight and Foods to Promote Loss of Fat
Are You Planning to Become a Plus Size Model? If Not, Read These Diet Tips
There is absolutely no doubt that teens, especially those involved in fashion modeling or runway, are particularly sensitive about their weight. if you've indulged in too many sweets, junk foods, soda and fried foods as a child and preteen, you may now be looking with dismay at some legitimately extra pounds that you don't want!
On the other hand, you may be of a normal weight, but be of the 'skinnier-the-better' mind set. In either case, you'll first want to consult your physician to see how much, if any, weight you need. Often, teens losing weight simply embark on a program of their own making, lacking an understanding of basic nutritional concepts and also, perhaps some common sense.
Surely your Mom has pushed the balanced diet theory on you, fixing nutritious meals, 'for your own good'. However, the snacks of candy bars and soda at school and maybe a bag of fries on the way home, have caught up to you now.
Super young kids burn a lot more energy, riding their bikes, playing at the playground and other strenuous activities you no longer do on a regular basis. So, if your physician agrees that you should lose 10 pounds, it's probably sound advice. Getting and staying fit and trim is far easier to do when you're young than it is once those pounds are firmly entrenched! So teens losing weight under responsible guidance can give you an advantage for life.
On the other hand, some teenagers should not be dieting. Let's say that you're 5'6 tall and weight 120 pounds, but the image you see in the mirror says 'You're overweight.' and won't be able to walk the runway when you're 15. This is a psychological misperception. If your doc tells you that your weight is normal, believe it. Dieting will only rob your body of nutrition required to keep you developing normally. If you nonetheless continue feeling 'fat', let your doctor or Mom know. You might need to adjust your perceptions of your physical image through counseling.
Sometimes, as an adolescent, your rate of metabolism may change, slowing down from what it was as a kid. This is another reason for a seemingly sudden gain in weight. This means that when you were a kid, you could get away with the candy, sodas and fries, never gaining a pound.
Dieting teenage girls and boys so often take a radical approach, cutting their calories dramatically, thinking this is the only answer. In this instance, a better approach might be to simply cut out the junk foods, for the most part (!), and instead load up on the healthy foods to your hearts content. You may shed all the weight necessary, using the less sugar, less fat strategy.
Going on a diet doesn't have to be a protracted period of torment! Most diet plans fail because the foods you're 'allowed' are mere shadows of wannabe dining pleasure.
Generally, these menus are devoid of flavor, with sauces that only remind you of what might have been on your plate. If your diet consists of food which is not satisfying in every way, you end up feeling deprived and are soon sneaking in a candy bar to make up for the unending misery of mealtime. Here we show you how to identify weight loss foods you enjoy, fill you up, taste great and thus lead you happily down the sweet road to success.
The key to creating menus which fit this description lies in understanding a few, simple principles of nutrition. Here's the formula for finding weight loss foods and incorporating them into your daily diet fare.
When your objective is to promote loss of some unwanted pounds, the bottom line of any diet is calories consumed. However, another primary objective should be maximum nutritive value. If you subsist on soda crackers and broth, you'll lose weight, but probably end up with several nutritional deficiencies, a lack of energy, a less than vibrant complexion and a bunch of flabby skin!
It's ironic that the most nutritious foods tend to be low in calories and high in nutrients. Your list of weight loss foods is characterized by the following: low in fat and sugar, but rich in vitamins and minerals.
High protein foods help build muscle. High-fiber foods, such as produce, require as much, if not more, energy (burning calories) to digest than they contain. On the other hand, sugar-laden foods, like pastries and ice creams, convert to fat stores in a heartbeat. There you have the basic criteria for identifying those weight loss foods, as well as the ones which will sabotage your dieting efforts. Does this sound like a grim beginning? Not! Let's see how you can satisfy your hunger, palate and waistline, painlessly and tastefully.
Start out by making a list of foods, by category, that you like to eat. This includes meats, dairy products, produce and grains. You don't need to discriminate between the 'good' and 'bad' foods just yet.
If your idea of a perfect dinner is a big, juicy burger, you can have it. You just need to choose the right meat. Regular ground beef is full of hormones, antibiotics and other additives which aren't healthy for anyone. Instead, choose a package of natural (no hormones, antibiotics or additives) Angus beef. It costs more, but is lean, high in protein and tastes so much better. The flavor and juiciness is a dieter's delight. The same goes for poultry and pork.
Fish automatically qualifies as weight loss food, so give fish a prominent place in your weekly menus. Shop for your meats at an all-organic supermarket or butcher shop.
When it comes to dairy products, remember that your body does need a certain amount of fat. You don't need to completely eliminate animal fats from your diet, you just need to be prudent. If your list of beloved dairy products is long, scratch out the ones which contain high amounts of saturated fats and leave the ones like cottage cheese and low-fat milk, avoiding such entries as ice cream and heavy cream!
Allowing yourself a baked potato, dressed up with a couple of tablespoons of sour cream, once a week, is a smart choice for a diet treat, with just 60 calories and 18% of your RDA in saturated fats. Spread out over a week's time, this treat helps keep you 'on the wagon'. By itself, you wouldn't normally think of sour cream as weight loss food, but in fact, it can be when consumed judiciously. It supplies satisfaction and keeps you dieting.
Produce should be a mainstay of your diet. Make this part of your list the longest. Even avocados, with copious amounts of oil, are a rich source of vitamin E, good for your heart and complexion. Bananas are very high in fiber and nutrients. Make a smoothie with a banana, a few berries and your favorite juice, for a filling and delicious breakfast.
Salads made with green leafy lettuces and a new mix of veggies or fruits, can be a daily menu item. The fiber fills you up and provides you with an array of essential nutrients and cancer-fighting antioxidants. Produce is the 'knight in shining armor' of weight loss foods!
Eat more whole grains for bread and pasta. These are high in fiber, complex carbs and vitamins.
The successful diet consists mainly of nutritious foods, with a smattering of luxury foods. A couple of tablespoons of gravy or salad dressing isn't going to kill your diet objectives, but will keep you on track, not feeling deprived, but satisfied and happy. Such non-weight loss foods create a carrot-and-the-stick effect, giving that pleasurable sensation while maintaining an overall low-calorie diet you enjoy. You lose the weight and look great in the LBD or pool side garb.
Going to a nutritionist can help you achieve your goals
If your doc says, Yep, you need to lose 25 pounds. I'm going to refer you to a nutritionist to put together a diet that works, then by all means, go for it. A nutritionist can give you some food lists that provide good nutrition and allow you to lose weight. He or she will also be pushing regular exercise as part of the program.
Very Important --- Follow the advice given you. It's so much easier for teens to achieve their goal of losing some weight than for adults who've been packing around extra pounds of long standing.
Once you're down to a normal weight, continue eating healthy and following a regular program of exercise. As a rule, losing weight responsibly means you are most likely to never have a weight problem, throughout your adult years.
