If you plan to work in performing arts, no matter if it’s modeling or acting, you will attend casting calls with talent agencies in the near future.
Others who use these open calls for casting include a dancer, singer, or maybe an extra in a television program.
So, even if you want to become a fashion model only, you still need to make these contacts. And, your agency interview becomes your audition, so to speak.
Let’s get started with modeling casting calls and see if there’s a role for you in show business.
Casting Calls – Are You Answering Model Casting Calls?
Okay, you did a search online for casting calls near me and found a few results. Now what?
Now, you show up at the casting call agency who put the word out, right? Hold on…
Truth is, as you learn more about modeling, you’ll find there comes a time to take action!
But – Avoid the Modeling Shortcuts!
Many new models try to take short cuts and get “discovered” at the mall. Or, they even walk the sidewalks of New York City as they’ve read in the magazines.
I’m here to tell you darling – this probably won’t happen!
That’s why I’m including these tips to use model casting calls the right way to put your career on the fast track to success!
What is a Casting Call Exactly?
The casting call covers many areas. Many include acting. But, modeling does come into the picture too. The online dictionary, wiki explains:
“In the performing arts industry, a casting (or casting call) includes a pre-production process for selecting a certain type of:
- or extra for a particular role or part in a script, screenplay, or teleplay.
This process is typically utilized for a motion picture, television program, etc.”
Make Contacts with Model Agents Through Casting Calls
This one is obvious. But, it’s amazing how many models overlook this step.
Learning photography modeling poses and the runway walk is recommended of course. But, to get discovered as a model you have to be seen!
These tips show that casting calls for models can be very beneficial to your career.
No matter if you are a teenager or a mature person, you need to put yourself out there and make agency contacts for positive results in modeling.
The Open Casting Call and Your Career
Many male and female hopefuls don’t have any idea of what it takes to begin a modeling career. And, they don’t quite know the meaning of terms like modeling open calls.
Don’t worry. These tips will help you to understand a bit more about the latter when getting started.
Do You Have the “Look” for Modeling?
Do friends, family, and even perfect strangers often tell you that you could be a model?
Or, do you have the kind of face and body that the camera just loves?
If so, then maybe it’s time to talk to some local model agents to see if you have a legitimate shot of breaking into the industry.
Walk Through the Mall – Show Off Your Beauty – Be Discovered – Nope!
Although people love to think that most of today’s top models were simply noticed walking down the street by the right people, that’s not the case at all.
Instead, modeling careers require lots of hard work. And, persistence is key!
Also, models must attend as many modeling open calls as possible.
Casting Calls Can Help You Start Locally as a Model
Local modeling casting calls offer you the best opportunity to secure your big break. These “go sees” with the agents often occur in major cities around the country.
And, modeling jobs can be for projects like..
- catalog shoots for a clothing store
- print ads
- or even auditions for speaking or non-speaking roles in television commercials.
The beauty of attending a casting call for model agencies is that, even if you’re not a good fit for that particular project, you still have a chance to impress the director, photographer, or agency rep.
When that happens, they’ll keep you in mind for future opportunities.
Get the Info – Then Be Prepared
Of course, in order to make it to talent or modeling casting calls, you first have to know when and where they’ll be held.
There are several different ways to stay apprised of these important pre-production events.
First, try to get represented by a model agent.
Some agencies will sign anyone they think has the potential to land a few paying gigs. So, it’s possible to get representation even if you’ve never worked in the industry before.
And, at a good model agency meeting, you will obviously have at least one contact.
In addition, they have the ability to obtain plenty of invites to modeling casting calls and auditions for you.
A Quick Word about the Modeling Agency
This is covered in other posts on my modeling site but is worth repeating:
Some modeling agents ask you for huge sums of money in order to get you discovered. Or, they promise you the moon (for a reasonable fee of course).
If this is the case, then you might want to walk away.
Now, you might have to make an investment in pictures for a portfolio or comp cards. This is reasonable. But, you shouldn’t have to go much further.
Use good judgment and follow your head. You should be fine.
Freelance Female Models and Self Promotion
Social networking sites are important these days as well. There are a few different sites out there that brand themselves as a “Facebook for models“.
And, creating a profile on these sites can help you learn about modeling casting calls via announcements or word-of-mouth.
Plus, there’s always the chance that you’ll make an invaluable contact from one of these places. So, they’re worth checking out.
But, in my personal opinion, why not let a professional model agency do the work and deal with clients? After all, you want to learn modeling, not become an agent, right?
Are You the Next Top Reality Television Star?
Briefly, look at the American public’s addiction to reality TV shows. Although rare, these shows led to quite a few new careers for budding actors and models.
Appearing on a reality show can get you noticed. So, you might consider checking the show’s website for upcoming auditions and attend a couple.
Finally – To Get Discovered as a Model, You Must Be Seen!
If becoming a model is your dream, then the first step to breaking into the industry is getting your name and face out there.
The payoff could be immense! I hope this works out for you.
