Who wants to know exactly how they can be prepared for an interview with a model agency? Below are five tips that will make you look and act like a professional.

1. Things to do Before the Agency Interview
Don’t wait until you are called for an interview. Start practicing standing up straight, walking gracefully and keeping your head up the day you decide you want to be a model. Watch supermodel videos and read everything you can get your hands on.

Prepare a portfolio of numerous photos with a variety of poses and looks. Take this with you to your interview. Get plenty of rest the night before interview so you can stay upbeat and alert. And, you surely don’t want to walk in to an open call with puffy eyes.

2. What to Wear to Model Interview?
When going for a model interview, your clothes and appearance are of utmost importance. Always dress for success by wearing casual slacks or a pair of form-fitting jeans with a solid colored shirt/top that fits you well and compliments your skin tone, along with shoes with 2-3 inch heels.

3. Makeup – Should I or Shouldn’t I?
Since most modeling agencies want to see your natural look, they might ask that you come to the interview wearing little or no makeup. If the agency requires makeup or if you feel uncomfortable not wearing any, you can apply a small amount of mascara with a stroke of natural looking eye shadow.

Add a little color to your cheeks by applying a little touch of blush. You should also cover any major blemishes with a small amount of concealer.

4. The Big Day
Allow extra time for traffic, parking, etc. so  you will be sure to arrive early for your interview. Act professional while waiting for the agent to arrive and don’t forget to turn off your cell phone!!!!

If you are a little nervous when the model agent walks into the room, take a deep breath when you approach them and give them a firm handshake.

Be very attentive, keep positive attitude, lean a bit forward and give eye contact when the agent asks questions. Always give honest and concise answers. And remember, the less you talk the better. The agency rep may get bored with you if you go on and on and on. You have two ears and one mouth; use them in that order.

5. Questions Model Agent Might Ask
Here are a few questions you might want to be prepared to answer from the agent.

  1. Why are you interested in a model career?
  2. Have you taken any fashion modeling courses?
  3. What are your goals in becoming a model?
  4. What do you know about the model and fashion industry?
  5. Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Remember, you can also ask questions, but just make sure they are appropriate and are asked in a professional manner. Also, show confidence when answering or asking questions.

Once the model agency interview is over, shake hands with the person that has interviewed you along with anyone else in the room and tell them “Thank You for Your Time.”

There it is! Once you have learned how to prepare for your model agency interview, it’s time to make contact with those agents who can help your career. When is the best time to get started? Today?
