Do Female Model Sizes Make a Difference?

A question many girls and young women ask is; “do female model sizes really make any difference?” or, do I have to have a certain height and weight to get started in a modeling career?

There are a couple of answers here. Let’s take plus size modeling. These female models are normally about a size 12 dress size so it’s going to be difficult if you are a size 20. This is the common sense approach but many modeling agencies around the country have certain standards for female model sizes.

How about runway or high fashion?
Now, you are really talking about the height and weight making a difference. You’ve seen ‘em. The NYC runway models working for Ford, IMG and Elite are tall and thin for the most part. Here are some measurements close to the industry standards.

Height: 5’8″ through 5’11″ – There are some exceptions but your chances increase in between these two numbers.

FYI:A the time of this writing, the world’s tallest female model is Caroline Welz from Germany. She stands an impressive 6’9″ inches. Well, I guess if she decides to change her profession, there’s always the NBA!

Body proportions should be on the thin side. And, this depends upon the agent and the age of the teen or young woman.

For female glamour models

These models need to be more curvy, still the tallest girls have an advantage but you do have a chance if your measurements are around 34-24-34-D. And, you need a very attractive face the agency is looking for.

As with all female model sizes, you need the “Look”. I’m not talking about a Cindy Crawford (for high fashion, yes) but having a look the modeling agencies can “sell” to their clients. It’s difficult for you to know but they will.

This is why you need to make contact with as many talent companies as possible until you find one who needs your look at this particular time. Don’t stop with just one. Ask what they are looking for and some will tell you – unfortunately, some will simply tell you that you are not it.
