Owning Your Own Photography Business, Photo Studio7 tips for beginner photographers ... Love the thought of owning your own photography business but have been waiting for the right moment? Now, I'm assuming that you have paid your dues in learning photo studio techniques and can already operate lights, camera and other equipment as a photographer. With that said - read on ..
Your Photo Studio You have probably wanted to be a photographer and own your own studio all your life. If so, and now you are ready to begin, you probably have in mind the type of studio you want to have and the type of pictures you are planning to take. Here are seven tips along with some helpful words of advice:
How to Start a Photo Studio 1. Name your photography business. This is called branding your business so that it is known all around your area for its name and the work that you do. For instance, I named my studio Bob Pardue Photography with a website name of www.bobpardue.com and now, after about 10 years, lots of people know my name and can recommend my photographic services to their friends (blush).
2. What are the photo studio goals you have for your business? Write them down and follow them. And, keep check daily, weekly, monthly and yearly on your progress. Learn, tweak and repeat the success items for effect.
3. Where are you going to set up shop? Ever heard the saying for successful business - including photography studios? If not, it's "location, location, location". Give this some serious thought. Choose a side of the street where you see people busily humming along, so they will notice your appealing shop.
4. Advertise your photo studio. Another tip for photographers going out on their own is to spread the word wisely and frequently. There is no better advertising than word of mouth by satisfied customers for your photo studio. This will come as you do your job of taking great portraits, provide customer service, and offer something unique that your competition doesn't.
5. Talk to other photo studio owners. You will want to network with other business owners including some out of town photographers who are not in competition with you and make yourself known to the surrounding community.
6. Run your studio photography business as a business, not as a hobby. Keep appointment books and be professional at all times. Also, keep a record of your expenses and profits. Set up a business bank account. It's helpful to hire the services of a good accountant, especially if you are a new business owner.
7. Marketing photo studios. Advertise your photo studio business so that it becomes something that potential clients just have to have. Show some of your most unique work online, set up picture displays to show your best photos, etc. so that your name becomes a household word.
These are just a few of the procedures for opening your own photo studio but use them as a starting point, learn all you can and your chances improve for becoming a professional photographer.
