The Photo Shoot - High School Senior Portraits

High School Senior Pictures

In this section we will cover the excitement and importance of your high school senior portraits. Remember, unless you are a female fashion model, you most likely will only do a photo shoot like this once. So, do it right and take the picture session seriously.

Your Senior Pictures

You may keep your yearbook from high school for the rest of your life, but you will also want to have your high school senior portraits to share with your children when they are older.

Memories

These can be great reminders of how you were and what you did while you were in high school. These pictures can be taken by anyone, or you can get them done through your high school in most cases. But, I would not suggest leaving this important photo shoot to an amateur. A professional photographer experienced in this area will create images of you to bring out your beauty and personality.

"Model" Poses for Your Photo Shoot

Don't settle for just a headshot and one full body taken from what sometimes looks like miles away. Show all your moods and facial expressions. Make sure you get some variety in your poses and your pictures. More than one pose is always appropriate and also a lot of fun. After all, you want to look back and remember who you really were in high school, right?

Become a Model for a Day

High school senior portraits are often the first time that anyone will have what feels like to be a female model in their very own photo shoot. You should take advantage of this opportunity by taking more than one outfit that you love with you when you go.

You can change a few times for a little variety. If you are in a school sport or some type of club, you may want to take a soccer jersey, a cheerleading outfit complete with pom poms, or other prop with you when you go so you can use them in one of your photos. Don't forget to include things that are important to you. Bring your guitar, your debate team trophy - or even your best friend to put them in some of your pictures. Create lots of photos and most of all, have fun during your photo shoot.

Your High School Senior Portrait Photographer

Some schools have contracts with photographers to come and take high school senior portraits for any students that sign up and pay the fee. These people know what to do and what to suggest so that you can make the most of your portraits.

They are going to do a simple head shot that is going to look good in the yearbook, but after that, they can suggest many poses, outfits and locations. You can choose the ones that you love. Allow them to guide you and make your own suggestions as well and you will love the results. You can also find your own photographer if your parents allow you to do so. This gives you an advantage as you can choose a location that is meaningful to you - like the first place you learned to swim, or maybe your first kiss (blush).

Timing of Your Photo Shoot

What can be surprising to some students is that high school senior portraits are often taken the summer before senior year.

You are probably use to having pictures done at school during the first part of that year, but these are done even sooner. Technically, they are junior pictures, but you probably won't change that much that it makes a difference. Not only does this ensure they are ready when you need them, it also ensures summer or fall shots if you live in an area where it might not be wise to pose for pictures outdoors because of the low temperatures.

Picture Printing Costs

When you order your high school senior portraits, the prices are going to be higher than what they were before when you got your pictures taken other years. Talk with your parents about the cost of senior pictures and what you hope to get out of your portrait package.

Make sure you have enough images for your parents, some to keep for yourself, and save the pictures you want to give friends and family. These photos will be around for a long time, and you may not get any done again until you are engaged or married, so make the most of them and enjoy the experience. Now that you know how, your high school senior portraits will be of the highest quality and you'll certainly remember back when you posed for your first model photo shoot. Ready to go?
