Become a
Female Model
Just A Few Steps For Female
Models
Get Started In The
Business
As young teenagers, many dream of
becoming a female model. While there are over 200,000
successful models in the industry, there are still millions
of women shooting for those positions.
The modeling business is a complex
business and if approached correctly, you can increase your
chances of being one of the few who is
successful.
The modeling world is a complete
mystery to many teen girls and young women. Here is a closer
look at what it takes to get started in modeling. It covers
ideas from posing to contacting a model's agency so
beginners should read this before starting out or going to
open calls.
The Model Agency
As a beginner, one of the first steps
towards a professional career
in modeling is attending open
calls with an agency. What this means is that the agencies
who represent models and help them obtain positions set up
large and small interviews with potential models on days
that they are looking for fresh talent.
Attitude - Not
"Attitude"
The modeling
agency is checking out your
look so it's important you look your best and exude
confidence. However, don't confuse confidence with
cockiness. They want to know you can do the job but not that
you are conceited about your looks. Take detailed care of
your hair, makeup, teeth and nails that day. Don't try to
express your individuality with wild hair or funky colored
nails that day either. A French manicure will go with
everything you wear to the interview.
Your Modeling Portfolio of Pictures
- What Can You Do?
Another beginning step you will need
to take is this - when going to a casting call is a
portfolio of pictures showing various sides to your
personality. There are tons of professional photographers
for modeling portfolios in the market place vying for the
attention and money of a beginner wanting a career. Before
you hire him to create these important pictures, check his
work and interview him or her to get an idea of their
personality.
The photographer you choose should be
professional, honest and open to new ideas. He should be
able to suggest what to wear and give you some makeup tips,
posing ideas, etc. You in return should also be
extremely professional. Do your homework before your photo
shoot.
Research and put together some poses
and bring portfolio example pictures of where you want to go
in the session. The photography shoot is a collaboration
between the model and her photographer. Arrive on time and
listen to his advice when it comes to poses and styles.
After you have a good variety of pictures including at least
one full body and maybe a couple of female model headshots,
you can also consider putting together a comp card ( also
known as Zed ) to give out to various hiring agents who may
be in need of a model.
It Takes a Small Investment to Get
Started - Many Girls Do Not Understand This
Remember the phrase, it takes money to
make money and you will have a good idea of how to get
started in the business.
How Much Does Modeling
Cost?
While a woman shouldn't have to lay
out money for an agent to represent her there are definite
costs associated in getting started. As mentioned above,
you'll need pictures and of course there is the expense of
maybe traveling out of town to make interviews with scouts.
Just as someone who's going to college for a career spends a
great deal on classes, books and college, so can you expect
to spend some money to get started in the modeling
industry.
With that said, the expense is nothing
like even a two year degree so don't despair. If you are
fortunate and are able to become one of the working hot
female models you could make a good income in this exciting
career!
