Posing and Developing a Female Model
Photo Portfolio
As the modeling competition heats up,
creating an awesome female model photo portfolio is
even more important. All other things equal, female models
go after the desired high fashion runway modeling career
more than any other - which is one reason it is the most
competitive.
But, there are many other means of
entry a girl can take to learn how
to become a model if she is
planning to work in the talent industry. Truth is, that
modeling agencies are looking for models of distinct sizes,
looks and heights for commercial, promotional, catalog and
other interests.
Submitting photos to female
modeling agencies
Many female models find that their
chances improve with the agents if they have a presentable
female model photo portfolio with exciting images to submit
according to the agency requirements.
And, a side note is to check with each
one before sending in your pictures as each has its own way
of talking with new models. This brings in the need for a
modeling portfolio of pictures, or at least a head shot and
a full body. A professional portfolio will look better and
show you in a better light than just a couple of snapshots
so make sure and get this one right.
Please don't make the mistake of just
walking in to your local portrait photographer and stand
there while he or she takes pictures of you. As ludicrous as
this seems, many female models do just that. Their pics are
awful and they look like complete beginners! Creating female
model portfolios is about more than just taking
pictures. Professionals practice long and hard on such
things as looks they give, especially facial expressions,
body language, looking into and away from the camera - well,
you get the idea.
The point is that modeling, no matter
what you see on TV, is a talent that takes molding and
conditioning. Don't leave the way you pose for the
photographer's camera to chance. Here are a few tips to show
you how to learn posing technique.
Do what professional female models
do
Have you ever listened to interviews
with singers and they convey the fact that they took a
certain style from a past famous vocalist and then a bit
from another? You can do the same thing in modeling. There
are unbelievable pose ideas right at your fingertips during
the female model photo portfolio session; well, at least at
the supermarket counter. Look at the high fashion magazines
and the female models therein to see how they do it. Here
are four quick posing tips for models to get you started
..
Where is she looking? Into the
lens? Far away at some imaginary object? At her
hands?
What is her body language
saying? Is she relaxed? Bold? Are her legs crossed?
Where are her hands?
How does her pose work with the
clothing she is wearing?
About the lighting of the photo
- Is it bright and cheery or subtle and dark. Does her
posing go with the lights in the photo?
Now, you are beginning to understand
posing in a deeper sense, aren't you?
Practice
before the photo shoot
I can't say it any plainer, there is
no substitute for practice. Make notes or tear the photos
you like from the magazine to use. Then, begin your daily
practice session. First, you'll just be copying the female
models on the paper but don't worry - this is just the
beginner in you. Next, take several pictures that are
similar in style, posing and lighting and notice subtle
differences.
Try to put together parts of the three
or four poses to make up one of your own to use when
developing your female model photo portfolio pictures. Keep
doing this and your own personal style of poses will
develop. Get a friend or qualified photographers for
modeling portfolios to work with you if you have the means
and do photo shoots with your few poses you have put
together from practice. Try to get rapport with your
photographer. If you work with a professional, he or she
will see you through the lens and make suggestions to create
an awesome set of photos for your modeling portfolios
examples to show any talent management companies you apply
to.
Don't stop there!
Do a photo shoot with a couple of
other photographers (some will shoot free if you help them
with their female model photo portfolio ) and put these
pictures with the others. Now, you have a book to take to
the modeling
agencies when they announce
open calls or interview sessions. Don't leave your female
model photo portfolio pictures to chance. Make a set
you'll be proud to show!! Now, off to the supermarket!
