Just because you are a beginner
doesn't mean you have to take a back seat to professional
female models who have spent the time to learn and
practice.
How do you get started in modeling?
Well, there are several steps you should take, beginning
with what each type of modeling agency is looking for in
teenagers, women and guys interested in a career.
Types of Female
Models
Here is a list of some of the model
types to give you an idea as to where to start. Many girls
try to break in to the wrong genre and fail miserably. But,
you don't have to make that mistake with a little
research.
Here they are:
- Runway Modeling - The most
coveted for teenage girls with stars in their eyes. The
upside - A wonderful career walking the catwalk with
cameras flashing all around you, not to mention top pay
for the industry if; you get accepted by a top list
agency like Ford, Elite or IMG
based in New York, Milan, Chicago, Los Angeles, Paris and
Milan. Competition is brutal. Downside - You have to be
tall with a thin body. Female runway models are normally
5'9" or taller with body proportions to match and, just
as you see on America's Next Top Model, you need the
look.
- High Fashion Female Models
- Same as above; very competitive, the look is needed and
you will grace the covers of fashion magazines like Vogue
or Glamour.
- Commercial Modeling for Females -
A little less on the competition but girls need to have a
really bubbly personality and be willing to "act" with
body language and many types of posing for model
photographers in this genre
- Trade Show or Promo
Modeling - Girls interested in doing promotional work
at trade shows, nightclubs or events can get started as a
beginner here. You need to be very attractive, upbeat and
willing to sell or give out materials in booths,
etc.
- Glamour - Not for the shy.
Prepare to show off your body and make sure you have the
right measurements; 34-24-34 or close.
