American Idol

The 24/7 Presence of American Idol

Presented by By Bob Pardue

Like It or Not, American Idol is Here to Stay (At least a while)

It Seems that American Idol is to become an icon in the USA following such similar TV shows as;The Gong Show, Star Search and Pop Idol.

Americans (and others) are a very spoiled (and very large) bunch of talent show viewers. If a singer appears on the air, we listen. If he or she desires to sing but cracks and flounders, we watch. If they make it to the final competition, nearly flop, and then return to sing again we will cast our vote.

The Singers Don't Always Have to be Good -- Just There!

And if the singer can withstand the backbiting, the front-stabbing, and the hisses, boos, cheers, cries, and laughs, she or he might just become the apple of our American Idol eyes, the center of our American Idol focus, and the priority of our Idolistic purchases.

An American Idol Fan at 46

At forty-six years old I shamelessly have no problem admitting I am utterly drawn to American Idol.

I wanted to be a writer for hire or a singer. So I identify with the challenges, the competition and the wavering of esteem that is attached to climbing the musical tree to be the star at the top of the Idol totem pole.

And, I appreciate a great, nurtured voice (as one with a beautiful country-rock style that once riveted her own listeners, ahem). I respect singers who can stand in front of the practiced, experienced wisdom of Paula, the in-crowd understanding of what works musically of Randy, and the obnoxious but honest brutality of what works financially for Simon.

Calling in to Vote for the Next American Idol

Like thousands, during the audience-decided rounds, I anxiously, literally hold my breath as I phone in to vote and have to hit redial until the automated response says thanks for voting for Nadia Turner, Constantine Maroulis, Vonzell Solomon, and, especially, Beau Bice.

The Finale

And at the final show of the season, I dress up and prepare special award-ceremony foods, and invite my friends to participate in the hooting and hollering (having already lured them in months earlier to the addicting formula that is American Idol.).

But, the music isn’t the only compelling element of this overly popular TV show. I get goose bumps just writing about the American Idol show. This feeling hits me every time I see the promotions for the next Idol season, which begins—thank Goodness!—SOON!!

If you are an American Idol fan, I'm sure you feel the same. Who's your favorite?
