Let’s face it. As I’ve said many times, modeling – whether it’s fashion, commercial, promo or other types is hard work!
So, do you find yourself losing the energy you need before your modelling day is over?
Do you have mood swings or wonder why you’re gaining weight even though you are really active?
Well, today you’ll learn some simple solutions to better health and fitness even if you are a super busy model.
How Does Modelling Affect Your Health?
Any model in America knows just how bad working can be on your health. Whether it’s posing in a tough photo shoot for eight hours, looking at a computer screen to edit images, or stressing out about your next model agency interview.
Believe it or not, models risk:
- stiff joints,
- eye strain,
- and back pain,
all from working at one of the most glamorous jobs in the world!
But, one of the biggest risks of our working or modeling life is weight gain, especially for busy professional models.
So, what can you do to help avoid some of these health risks?
Solution! Discover These 5 Better Health and Fitness Tips for Busy Models
Even those who are on their feet during their workday face challenges.
These models are always busy. So, they turn to sugary food to keep them going which makes it more difficult to break the weight habit.
There is good news, though. Check out these five health and fitness tips for the busy models to improve your health – and your life!
1. Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Sleeping well can be the greatest thing you can do for your health. It improves your focus on overall performance the following day.
Also, it means you are more likely to make better dietary decisions.
When you choose to eat the right foods you feel better. This means you’re more likely to have the energy to do those exercises.
And, when you exercise, endorphins are released, and your mood improves. And yes, mood affects your energy levels, gives you a positive outlook, and leads to better modeling pictures or performance on the runway.
2. Plan and Seize the Day!
Do you really want to keep that modeling body in shape? Of course you do!
Okay, you do need to plan ahead.
One of the biggest downfalls of any lifestyle is the inability to maintain it.
So, if you know you’re prone to grabbing junk food on your lunch break, take time to prepare your lunch the night before (the same goes for your breakfast and dinner).
When you need a pick-me-up, grab an apple instead of a soda. Truth is, sodas are a terrible choice.
If you need a drink, make it water.
Choosing good habits over bad ones can make a world of difference.
Two Quick Exercise Tips..
If you constantly forget to grab your gym bag, leave it at the door or somewhere you will see it for when you need it.
The magic number when it comes to moderate exercise is 150 minutes – it is easier to achieve than you think.
The health site, WebMD says:
“You gain flexibility, burn calories, and look sleeker when you’re active and exercising. Ramp things up a notch, and you’ll reap more results.“
3. And Speaking of Lunches – Take Advantage of Your Photo Shoot Break for Fitness
If your photographer or coordinator has a conscience, he or she will give you a break for lunch.
So, a fitness tip of the day is to go for a walk on your lunch break. The fresh air will do you good and helps promote weight loss.
Simply walk to a park to eat lunch or walk to a healthy salad bar or restaurant. Pick one where there’s time for you to eat well and get your steps in.
If you make walking at lunch a daily habit, you will get an amazing energy boost.
And, the exercise helps your afternoon at work go by quicker too!
I won’t go into all the benefits of daily exercise for models here. You most likely know many of them already.
4. Change the Way You Travel To and From Work
Now, this is not for everyone. Obviously, if you live 10 miles from the studio or model agency, you most likely will use motorized transportation.
But, if you live fairly close to your workplace, leave the car at home and hop on a bike. Or, better still, just walk.
Not only will it save you money, it also helps protect the environment.
Now, look at you, thinking of others and improving your health! You’re such a caring model, aren’t you?
5. If You’re a Model Who Has to Travel – Use Travel Wisely
If travel is a regular part of your modeling career, then you know just how difficult it can be to exercise and to eat well.
So, the first thing you should do is start keeping a food diary. This way, you can track what you’re eating while traveling.
When it comes to exercise, check ahead to see if your hotel has a gym. If it doesn’t, you can track a path to walk or jog and see if there is a gym in the vicinity.
CAUTION: If you are not familiar with the city or place, please find out about the neighborhood before walking or jogging. It’s always best to get a walking partner to go with you for safety.
